I’ve worked as an environmental science presenter, national parks educational ranger and interpretive copywriter for more than 20 years.
During this time, I have come to appreciate the critical importance of vibrant storytelling as an effective means of engaging an audience.
Without effective engagement, interpretive signage simply becomes visual pollution in the landscape.
My Approach
Whether through visitor signage in a national park, website pages or audio tours, my approach incorporates the same core elements of authenticity, boldness, humour and personalised narrative style.
I want the audience to form a relational connection to the animal, plant, landscape etc whose story I’m telling. A connection which endures and affects a person’s attitudes, values and behaviours long after the words have faded.
Otherwise, in all honesty – you have to ask yourself – what’s the point?
